Got a quick question regarding a friends insurance.

She bought a car and filled the V5 in with her name and address of her parents house.

The insurance has been taken out in her name and the address on the policy is her boyfriends address where she spends 5 nights a week.

She has been told off someone that because the address on the V5 is at her parents address any insurance claim would be void as the insurance policy and v5 have different addresses?

Can someone confirm if this is correct?

Not only a potential issue for Insurers, but also the Police/DVLA.

Insurance address should be where the vehicle is kept, but if Insurers see the V5 after a claim on the policy, they will question why it is different. There are some Insurers who would use this to be difficult with the claim and some may even avoid the claim, if they could not prove they were living at the boyfriends.

It is a legal requirement to advise DVLA of a change of address. If the Police found out following an accident or offence that the address had not been updated, they would not be happy. Not sure of the penalty for this.

Many years ago someone I know sold a vehicle and had not advised DVLA. The Police came knocking on the door at about 2 o'clock in the morning, as the vehicle was involved in an incident. This is obviously slightly different, but you can see how the Police might not be too happy if they turned up at your friends parents house, only to be told she lives somewhere else.

We could do with some help from you.
