Virgin Media Contract

Hello All, can anyone offer any advice regarding virgin media? The account is in my mums name, she pays for the phone line and I pay for the broadband. Last year I was 2 days late paying the broadband bill and was charged a £10 late payment fee, which I refused to pay, so I just paid the outstanding amount minus the £10. The next month there was another £10 late payment making it £20, which I also refused to pay and the next month there was a further £10 fee.

 

As I refused to pay the £30 in ‘fees’ they disconnected the BB, so I asked my mum, as the account holder, to phone them up. Once she got through to somebody she gave me the phone to explain. Anyway, after a heated discussion with a rude woman from VM I told her politely to shove the BB up her… but she told me it couldn’t be cancelled until the £30 was paid. I told her clearly that I would pay the £30 but I would be claiming the money back as it was an illegal penalty charge. I paid the £30 over the phone and told her to put me through to somebody else, as I wanted to cancel the BB, which she did.

 

I was put through to a very friendly guy that offered to cut the price of the phone and BB by half and I agreed to it . Everything was fine until over the New Year when the BB stopped working for over a week and then the phone for a few days. I wasn’t given a refund for the time I had no Internet or phone, which has really p***ed me off . The speed has also gone much slower than it used to be.

 

As I am not the account holder, and the guy didn’t check with the account holder when I agreed to the half price deal, can it be cancelled?
