Hiya,

just information needed really.

We have been awarded DLA lower rate care and mobility for my 13 yr old son.

I am aware that the DLA itself does not affect our Housing Benefit.

However, it has increased my Tax Credits because they've added the disability credit as it were.

Obviously Tax Credits are income for Housing Benefit, so will the Disability bit of it lower my Housing Benefit?

Many thanks

Rachie

I am no expert by any means but I am pretty sure that Housing benefit apply the same amount to your allowances in the form of a premium, so it does not affect the amount of housing benefit you get.

I am sure that someone with a bit more knowledge will be along to let you know for definate.

Hi.

Yeah should should now be entitled to the disabled child premium which will increase your Applicable Amount (the figure used to reflect your basic living needs). The disabled child premium is currently £51.24 so if your tax credits increase isnt too much more than that figure your Housing Benefit shouldnt be affected too much. To be sure though, contact your Housing Benefits office and inform them of the change, they should also be able to explain exactly how this change will affect your HB/CTB entitlement.
