Hi, I'm hoping someone can help, or point me in the right direction to threads around the site.

My friend was refused a credit card because Equifax have an old listed address with someone who committed fraud, despite it being after my friend sold the house.

The main points are:

1998: my friend seperated from her husband and moved out of the house and has 2 listed addresses since then.

2006: My friend and the husband sold the house

2008: Equifax have a tenant of the people who bought the house on a "4-application fraud facility refused" status registered by Lloyds TSB.

Even though my friend didn't even own the house at that time, it is affecting her ability to get credit.

The phone numbers are all premium rate so I thought I would try on here for her first to see if anyone has had a similar problem.

Really appreciate any help or advice, you guys have been a fantastic resource in the past.

Thank you

Are you sure , i was told Equifax/experian did their credit ratings on the basis of names not addresses , so a "fraud' rating even after the person has moved out should be an anomyly . I would suggest writing recorded delivery to the credit ratings agrencies pointing out , the fraud was post residency and in no way connected to the name on the file and insisting on the removal of all refernces from your friend's files , as they are esssentially defaming her as a fraudster by default .

Thank you for your reply,

Yes it is a total mistake, but it's finding the best way to have it put right, not sure if people have had similar experiences and if it's better to write. Experian for example show nothing wrong with my friend's file it's only through Equifax.

Its not always the case that different CRAs will record the same info, but it IS the case that the info should be accurate.

Follow asvice as suggested above-and keep us posted.
