Hi all, I have recieved a letter from the job centre asking me to attend the 13 week interview to discuss what happens next, 2 weeks ago i asked the job centre worker what help i can get with training, he told me, nothing till the 13 week interview!

however, after reading a few posts on this site, it doesn't seem like i will get any help till i have been siging on for 6 months! I was hoping for some training help, for example, help with getting corgi registered.

can anyone help me to understand what i will get offered on this interview.

Can you get yourself on the "new deal".

It seems to offer a lot more help.

Please note that although my advice is offered, you should consult your legal representative before taking ANY action.

have a nice day !!

You won't get a lot at 13 weeks. They just want to see what you have been applying for, where you are looking, an up to date CV etc etc; my interview lasted less than five minutes. You can only get on the New Deal after 6 months if you are under 25 I think (Not sure exact criteria as there is an over 25s version too); worth asking anyhow.

Really push the CORGI registration with them; not sure but I have heard of people getting financial assistance for this sort of thing without having to have been signing on six months. Make sure you can show them exactly why getting it would enhance your employment potential. Also most jobcentres should be able to refer you to a local small business advisory service, who will know a lot more about how to get help with things like this than jobcentre staff and are a better bet for assistance. This is what I did and they really helped.

Best of luck.

New Deal is six months if you are 18-24 and eighteen months if you are 25+. There is an option (office discretion) to take you on as an early entrant and I know CORGI can be arranged in some areas however once on New Deal you have to follow the regimen. The early entry interview will explain more.

As said before, the 13 week interview is really just an update. The advisor may look at your jobseekers agreement and do a jobsearch but usually not much else. In some areas they also run an enhanced service whereby you will be called in weekly for another 6 interviews to do jobsearch.

thanks for your help guys, i had read somewhere about new deal not being available to me till i had been signing on for 18 months as i am over 25. Having never been unemployed before this is all new to me. I will get as much info as possible to take in to the interview with me to try and persude them its worth me having the corgi registration, and keep plugging away at getting a job till then!

it's pretty crazy isn't it really when you know what you want, and they don't really want you to have the help until you've been claiming for so long. ( helps get rid of the long term unemployed that way, i suppose ).

Please note that although my advice is offered, you should consult your legal representative before taking ANY action.

yeah that must be what it is, i can understand in a way, if they gave training out to people straight away, everyone would become unemployed to get free training! but after 3 months, surely that is long enough, but how can you prove to these people that i want to work and don't want to spend any longer claiming JSA than i have too!
