Waiting for court date- creditors still chasing

Hi,

 

I went to the court today to file for bankruptcy and they have given me an apointment for the end of the month.

I still have creditors chasing me for money and have no money to pay them.

 

I dont want the debt collectors at my house (owned by my dad). Is there anything i can do to get me through the 3 weeks wait?

 

Do i tell them i'm going bankrupt?

I actually think you are advised not to pay any creditors anyway in the weeks leading up to BR as it could show some preference.If it was me id tell them and also tell them you have been advised to withhold all payments due to this.

 

Im sure someone will come along shortly and tell you exactly what to do and say this site is a massive mine of informitive peeps .

As a general principle it is advisable not to tell creditors you are petitioning for your own bankruptcy. Doing so only gives them added encouragement to get what they are claiming before you go bankrupt.

Keep it as a pleasant surprise.

 

But you have to make the best judgment on this yourself.

 

As others have already pointed out you should stop paying your non-essential bills as these will be included in the bankruptcy and you will have retained a few shekels to pay your bankruptcy fees.
