Hi, I'm Mike, an angry and frustrated consumer who is fed up with Rip-Off Britain bullies treating us like cash-cows.

I have initially joined this forum to see if it can help me reclaim or avoid costs I can ill-afford.

This post concerns a "mistake" I made and the subsequent penalty incurred which, when queried, was told could not be dealt with (2007) because of the outstanding court case on bank charges. I think the case has now been concluded so wish to learn more.

To sum up, I wanted to amend a direct debit payment I had previously set up to pay my monthly rent as I had been given notice to quit the address. Unbeknown to me, instead of amending the end date, they tell me I actually set up a duplicate payment which was presented that month, after I'd paid my rent hence it was declined because of lack of funds.

They charged me for a failed direct debit payment and refused to discuss the issue because of the ongoing court case.

What, if anything, can I do please?

Thanks in advance, Mike

Hi Mike :)

Welcome to the Consumer Action Group, you have found the right place.

I am afraid to say that the OFT V Banks court case is still on going, you can read more about it here :-

http://www.consumeractiongroup.co.uk/forum/barclays-bank/107576-oft-test-case-what.html

However, there is nothing to stop you starting a claim now.

You don't which bank your with but there is a forum for all the banks here

http://www.consumeractiongroup.co.uk/forum/

It's a good idea to start a thread in your own banks forum, there you will get lots of help from people who have been there before and got their money back :D

I have put some links at the bottom of this post that will help you find your way about the site. Above all, enjoy your time on CAG

come back and shout any time.
