Hiya,

My Abbey bank account is seriously OD due to recent bank charges- over £1000 in past 2 months alone. They froze my account last week.

I am trying to claim bank charges back and need duplicate stements for the past 6 years and Abbey charge £10 for this. But as my account has no funds Abbey say i cannot have the statements. I think this sounds fair enough as i don't have any money in the account. So I've paid my mum to write me a cheque payable to Abbey for these statements. However i have just been told by abbey customer services that is not acceptable and that because my account is overdrawn I am not entitled to have these statements until my account is in credit. It will be a long time before i can afford to pay the overdraft off- i still have to live and pay household bills- i stay at home with our 3 young children and my husband is self employed and supports us all- altho his money can be good it is not a constant- so the repayment sceme will be a long one. I really need these charges back to pay off my overdraft. Can anyone advise as to whether I can get statements whilst my account is overdrawn- surely it doesn't matter who pays as long as someone does?

The lying toe rags....

Read the FAQ's first of all. You will need to make a DPA request on them for the info (these are in the letter template library). Send it recorded delivery with a £10 postal order... whether the account is in credit or not is entirely irrelevant.

Start a new thread in the Abbey section for more specialised help and support on reclaiming these unlawful bank charges.

Just the FAQ’s ma'am. Please read 'em thoroughly before jumping in. Cheers :)
