Halifax offered me £800 in writing on 24th Jan. Rec'd it 26th. I claimed £1500 on 8th Jan. I rang - insisted upon full settlement as they had refused to negotiate on 23rd Jan. on the phone when my initial 2 weeks was up after 1st letter (they recieved that on 9th Jan). Up to this point I would have took a bit less for a quick payoff. However, they have been so rude to me and really p'd me off.

I am concerned however, that I satisfy the reasonableness test in court.

Am to write to them today (by recorded delivery) to say that offer of £800 as full and final settlement is not acceptable. I would, without predudice take it as part settlement and continue my claim for the rest...

Advice on this and any future course of action would be gratelully received.

When you say you recieved it on the 26th, did they put it in to your account with out tellling you, and without you signing anything?

Breenie, I would proceed to the next stage, and send them the 'partial acceptance, will pursue rest in court' letter. You've not acted unreasonaby because they haven't offered you the full amount you're after. You are within your rights to claim the whole amount. They'll be paying you the lot soon :)

hi there. thanks for this.

To be frank I have done a deal with em. £1350. I am skint and needed quick cash. It works out at 87% of my claim. Which all said and done I am very pleased with. This site and Money Saving Expert have been fantastic. Until I saw Martin Lewis on the tele, and then saw this site via Google I had no idea about this, so thanks. I'll happily donate a few bob to the site. :D
