If you are a company or an individual, I think the S.A.R is the same, only you ask for a companies detail instead of an individuals.

A SAR is only for personal data of a living person.

If the company has your or your spouses names on the account and it appears on the statements it may be that you can use a SAR to get your data.

Basically the DPA is for the protection of subject which is a living person. Data would qualify if the subject to which it applies can be identified by reference to it.

Does that help?

The DPA does not cover a ltd company, as the company is then an 'entity' in its own right.

If the company is a sole trader or unincorporated partnership then it is covered by the DPA.

You can ask for statements but not mentioning the DPA, but banks say as it does not come under DPA regulation, they can charge £5 per statement.

I was wondering if there was any other way apart from this

As a point for discussion the data protection act covers subjects, if the account has a subjects name on it then the statements would be covered.

it wouldn't cover the company at all which you correctly state.

In essence if a company holds data on you then when served with a SAR they should provide the necessary info, the act doesn't say that you have to be the account holder or any such.

There may be complications in some areas where the data held also refers to other subjects and the right to see everything is not enshrined in the act in that sense and the data you receive may be 'redacted' which i believe is a fancy way of saying edited to conceal the details of other subjects.

Anyway, the key is whether there is any personal data on the account if there is your laughing if there isn't then asking politely would be the best way forward i think. At least to start.
