Myself and most of my work colleagues were given rebates for the year 2012/13. It now turns out that we will most probably have to pay them back because our employer has actually not given the HMRC the correct and complete information for the last two tax yrs. I just wondered what our rights are regarding this when it's obviously a mistake by our employer shouldn't he have to pay it?

HMRC work on an assumption that you know as much or more about your tax affairs then they do but if it is unreasonable that you were expected to know your employer/tax office got it wrong you can appeal any decision to recalim the rebate if you have spent it.
