Seeking some advice.

Last month I received a letter from MMF

requesting a payment from a debt I owed to pound til pay day

which I had probably in truth forgotten about,

I had probably taken this loan back in 2009.

I decided to pay without question immediately.

However today I checked my equifax credit record

and see they have slapped a new Default on an account that neither existed with Pounds til payday

or MMF prior to them contacting me.

In addition they have marked it as unsettled.

Are they legally entitled to do this?

Many Thanks!

With defaults from MMF, it seems like the default gets added by the OC the day before or the same day the debt gets sold. This has the effect of making it appear that MMF has defaulted the account.

One thing to say though, is check the date of entry, date of default, AND the type of debt it was. MMF are notorious for adding incorrect information.

Any advice i give is my own and is based solely on personal experience. If in any doubt about a situation , please contact a certified legal representative or debt counsellor..

DCA's view debtors as suckers, marks and mugs

NO DCA has ANY legal powers whatsoever on ANY debt no matter what it's Type

and they

are NOT and can NEVER  be BAILIFFS. even if a debt has been to court..

If everyone stopped blindly paying DCA's Tomorrow, their industry would collapse overnight...

So they defaulted it less than 4 weeks after starting the account? Allowing for no time to rectify the problem?

Thats PDL's for you. imo the default is flawed as you didnt have the chance to rectify the breach. However, these are PDL's and MMF, and they do whatever they like.

Probably sold in a portfolio of debts and MMF are just getting around to chasing them.

It does seem that the companies selling these PDL accounts to MMF default immediately prior to the

sale and do not report to the CRAs at all.

  • 1 month later...
Just following up here. Although I had paid them, they still have not updated the credit record to show as satisfied! Anything I can do?

You will have to write to MMF (Mr Neil Petty) and demand the records are updated.
