hi

my car which is a hyundia i30, 09 plate went in for a service to a local garage where it had a service and a new clutch, everything was fine for about 6months then we started to get a whirring noise every time we pressed the clutch down plus loss of power.so we took it back and it was the clutch again being worn out and this was replaced.

then a few days ago while the wife was driving the car it just came to a halt at the traffic lights she couldent get it in gear or start it,so the AA towed us to a garage so they could take a look but before i let them i checked to see if we were still under warrenty and the car was so i decided to take it to an hyundia garage as it minght have been a problem which was covered under warrenty.

Anyway after stripping it down they told me it was the clutch again it had wore out,i couldent belive it!! they say theres no way we should be going through clutches like this its impossible.the wife travels to work and back from mansfield to nottingham which is proberbly 20miles each way and she is a steady driver.

So ive got the clutch and im going to take it back to the garage which fitted it,but ive a feeling they are just going to wriggle out of it and i just want to know where i stand with this problem,i want my money back am i entitalled.

thanks

a quick update. hyundia garage are saying the clutch fitted exploded and as knackared the gear box, something to do with the bearings. And as the clutc fitted wasent a hyundia part i may not be covered under warrenty. The thing is tho we were never given a choice as to what clutch we wanted.

try going back to the garage that fitted the clutch

i might be wrong as well but im sure their is something about work at an independant garage NOT impacting on a warrenty im sure local garage had a poster about it

take it from someone who does mansfield to newark everyday that 3 clutchs in a year is unusual ive done that drive for over 7 years and NEVER broke a clutch

Hi,

Labrat, I believe you're making reference to the Motor Vehicle Block Exemption Regulation, which allows motorists to have their cars maintained at service centres not operated by the vehicle main dealer while maintaining the manufacturer warranty, however there are conditions that need to be met, for example, parts used by the service centre must meet or exceed OE quality.

I would get in touch with the garage that previously repaired the vehicle and ask them to provide you with details of where the clutch kit was purchased from and what type it was. If it was me my priority would be establishing that the previous clutch kit was OE quality, thereby preserving the warranty on the vehicle.

Normally I'd agree that you should have the car recovered to the garage that previously repaired it, but as you've now had work done by the Hyundai dealership you'll have incurred significant costs there already, so it may be worth pressing them for a warranty repair.
