Hi,

Please can anyone advise me on the following-

Back in 2000 my husband and I took out a mortgage with the Abbey national

and as I was self employed we were told it was imperative that we took out their Paymentcare policy to cover my half of the mortgage if I was unable to work.

At the time I was working less than 16 hours a week and in hindsight my husbands wages would have easily covered the mortgage if I couldn't work

12 years down the line, I am still paying £18 a month for this policy and the shocking thing is I didn't realise I still had it until I started looking at my bank statements

- I know that's really bad!!!

Do you think it would be worth looking into this further as the policy booklet states to be covered,

the self employed must work for more than 16 hours a week and I still don't?

Many thanks in advance for any help given.:-)

Hi

There's two reasons there for a mis-sale.

Get reclaiming.

Use this spreadsheet to work out your claim amount

StatIntSheet v101.xls

Just enter the dates of the payments you have made, a description and the amount.

Go to the fos website and download a consumer questionnaire and complete is.

Send the completed questionnaire and a copy of the spreadsheet together with a brief letter requiring refund to the lender

Thanks for the info.

Should I get an 'official' questionnaire from Santander aswell as the letter template and spreadsheet as advised?

Hi there,

I currently have a PPI complaint against Santander regarding the mis-selling of PPI on my mortgage.

In a nutshell, I'm self-employed and work for less than 16 hours a week however looking into the small print of the policy booklet, you have to work for more than 16 hours a week to claim.

Also my husbands wages are sufficient to cover the mortgage if I was unable to work.

The stupid thing is the policy is still running. Will this affect the claim?

Should I just cancel the policy straight away?

Sorry but not very money savvy-be gentle!!!

Two threads on the same subject merged...please keep to one thread for this issue.

No it won't affect the claim but you can write and cancel if you feel happier that way

Hi there,

After being all positive regarding my PPI claim against Santander I am now a little worried.

The basis of my claim is that I don't (usually) work for more than 16 hours a week on a self-employed basis.

However, I've just discovered my working tax credit form from a few years ago which states that for a couple of years I worked for 20 hours a week.

Do you think they would check this?

I only have to fill in a short tax return and there's nothing to state on there how many hours I actually work.

I'm getting myself worried now that they might send the fraud squad round!

Help Please Anybody?

Hi woodyt,

I'm sure one of the experts will be along soon but the important part of what you said is "self-employed". I'm sure that it does not matter how many hours you work. A claim based on being self-employed is a claim based on being self-employed, irrespective of the number of hours worked.

If I'm wrong, I'm sure someone will say so.

Also claims usually have more than one reason for being mis-sold.

Hi Woody

I have merged your threads again......please just stick to this ONE thread for your Santander PPI claim.

The bank won't have access to your tax records so don't worry about that.

Most PPI policies require the self employed to more or less go out of business in order to be able to claim on the policy which generally makes it useless to them

Just wait and see what they come back with but whatever it is, it won't be as a result of them checking your tax records

Hi IMS,

Thanks again for your advice and sorry that I haven't got to grips with the posting of threads, hopefully there won't be many more!

You've really put my mind at ease and I shall sleep better tonight.

I've had 'one of those days' and discovering this was the final straw!

Many thanks again

Kind regards

Woodyt

hi all,

employed,

took payment care policy out back in 2008 and then found when I needed it most due to unemployment, that it was a waste of time, not worth the paper it was written on.

So cancelled in 2011, payments totaling £1351.42.

Can I claim this back plus interest?

Many thanks in advance,

Mark.
