The woman who "did" me was very nice and sympathetic but she (along with the DWP) stabbed me in the back later with a load of rubbish and 2 points.

She was being nice so she can go through the medical as calmly and quickly thus making you thinking you would win the woman at my medical did that but i didn't buy her kindness I just knew I failed already before i've even got there.

Basically if you say anything positive about yourself they will use it against you. A lot of it is "catch22" - if you say you watch films it then translates that you can sit comfortably for 2 hours and follow the plot.

I agree about the "catch 22" and whilst the dwp think you can watch a film therefore make you workable do they realise that when you are working you have to spend 8 hours of it a day i have seen in a mental hospital recently they are actually encoraging mental illness patient to watch tv and read it doesn't make them less mental the dwp got some stupid rules.

The perfect way would be to driven there by a friend or family and have them carry you in and say that you are too ill to answer questions and too ill to even be there or sit still or stand up.

Yes this might give you a chance. Years ago i went with a friend and did the talking the doctor spoke to me instead and she won her medical for indefinately there and then there was no decision making at the time poor woman had a massive breakdown and i did everything for her I was working at the time lol I didn't realise years later I would be in the same boat facing a medical myself.

Hi

Back from the medical. My brother drove me and my Mum came in with me.

Like others have said a nice dr.

I was in such a state shaking, crying and stammering my Mum ended up answering most things for me i just couldn't get anything out.

He asked :

How i got there.

Did i watch tv help Mum around the house.

Did i socialise. Had i got a computer.

He said it was sad the a young lady should suffer for so long and that i ought to try and go with my sister in law to help her with the horses. He said it would be good for me and that when i felt up to it i should see if i could maybe enrol on a computer course. He was actually offering medical advise.

Good or bad i don't know how i should take it.

He had definately read through my IB50 form as he said i had explained myself clearly. He had made notes. He said that he would enter all the details into the computer when i had gone as he didnt want to keep there longer than necessary because of my state.

I think it lasted about 10-15mins.

Have i passed who knows.

Like others have said they appear nice and sympathetic and then you get the letter 0points ets.

sounds like you had one of the more rarer good experiences, as it should be for all really, sounds postive in the fact that the dr listened first then going to fill in the computor which means a more accurate assessment, well done you on getting through all done now so hope you can relax and stop worringing. My very best wishes to you

I sincerely hope you pass your medical but if you do fail then you should challenge them with all the questions that they have asked you and failed you on for example when they would say if you have a computer and use it then you are fit for work, you should then tell the dwp the different with using your computer at home that you seek the internet about your illness or chat to other people with the same illness as yourself is a vast difference to using a computer for working with ie writing letters and do figures the definition of mental illness be it Depression in reality one cannot hold down a job for 8 hours per day 5 days a week they know that too well find out as much fact about your illness and in what way it cripple you to do a day work by that I don't mean holding a cup of tea or putting a pint of milk back in the fridge as their Form suggested because there are many mental illness people as yourself whilst being ill have proven that they can make a cup of tea or even cook a meal for themselves or look after a family but to hold down a job and work 8 hours a day is not possible as the theory goes people on depression should stay away from stressed environment most Health Professional and even Psychiatrist would tell you that the dwp would have to accept this by law as your right as a human being. I know people who suffer with the same illnes as myself has passed their IB Medical so I would challenge them what's the difference between them and me.

I myself will fill my IB50 form tomorrow I do have help because I do not understand the dwp's english but I intend to put down what crippled me with various chores as what would happen when I hold down a job of course I can pick up a cup of tea or pint of milk and of course when I am at my worst my panic attacks crippled me to that I have to shut myself away in my bedroom all day but being ok the next day and go about my chores indoors would not make me fit for work and if they challenge my doctor I've have had many panic attacks in her surgery which she is aware of so it would be nice to see what they would say about that. I am an accountant been working for 22 years and have run a business of my own for 5 five years my job is very intense so I will see how they will compare me making a cup of tea to counting figures and deal with VAT etc. I intend to fight dirty this time round they failed me in May this year for my DLA but I was too ill to do anything about it this time round I am ready for them.

Sorry for the long message but I just wanted you to know that you can fight them. I pray you will get the result you want we all in this forum are here to help.

Take care

Lets hope so.

The doctor said he would complete the computer after i had gone so i didn't have to be there longer than necssary.

So yes i think i will try and see that as a positive.

Thank you for your wishes.

Thanks Helen it is very frustrating. On the one hand you yourself are trying to make the small steps to help yourself get better ie: maybe going for a walk but then in the medical it goes against you that you are trying to do small steps as you don't score the points.

Trying to get across like you say yes i have a computer does that mean i could sit at a desk 8hrs trying to concentrate to do my job. No not at the moment maybe part time in the future.

It took me 6weeks to fill my IB50 form in i had to do it bit by bit very slowly.

Take your time i don't know about you but if try and concentrate for too long my brain is puddled. If i try and do too much i tend to wipe myself out for a few days.

I know that because of today and what it has taken out of me worrying etc tomorrow i'll be fir for noone.

Best wishes. If you want to pm then feel free.

I agree I am trying to help myself too at the moment I am eager to get back to work I've had to pushed myself to go for walks in my little park it's just facing my house as I would not get any further if not able to see my house in sight. I am ok around at my local but anywhere unfamiliar I am finished and that happen recently the but stop somewhere I don't know I was in a right state and froze on the bus stop I had to be encouraged to take the next bus home it was frightening.

my career is a very demanding one working with figures for 8 hours it's impossible at the moment etc at home I use my pc for forums like this one seeking help or help others if I can and chat with people with the same illness as myself that does help especially chatting to people that has conquer their panic attacks all I need is a little time to get myself better and get back to work so I have to fight for that.

I am the same as you I have to send my IB form by 8/09/10 I haven't even fill it in yet I will have a go at the weekend my brain is already mess up but I know I have to fill it in. Thanks for the offer of pm I see how far I get perhaps I shall take you offer.

take care

most people are likely to be asked the majority of these questions. It’s worth looking through

them and thinking about how you could most accurately answer them.

Where do you live?

How long did it take you to get here?

Where have you parked? or Where did the bus stop?

Did you have to walk (from the car park or bus stop)?

Catkin, please ensure that someone from your family or a friend who knows how your condition affects you accompanies you to the medical. Do you have someone who can drive you to the medical rather than use public transport? Sometimes it takes a friend or family member who is able to remain calm but has a no nonsense direct approach and says it as it is. This is particularly important when you have a medical examiner such as the one doktorjohn describes above i.e. the Smiling Assassin. Ask your friend or family to familiarise themselves with your medical notes IB50 etc. This is also a good way of testing how familiar the ATOS practitioner is with your case.

Best wishes

Just to add as you will see from my earlier post on 23/8/10 the Atos dr had defiantely read my IB50 form.He commented how clearly i had explained myself and he even offered advise to me Ie: try and see if you can help your sister in law with the horses it will help you.

Whether that was lulling me into a false sense of security i don't know.

There is always hope sometimes miracle does happens you never know example when I rang the Child Tax Credit Dept I got through straight away and the lady asked me for a password which I couldn't remember she created one there and then over the phone yet another person trying to ring the same dept took ages to get through then when asked a password he didn't have he was asked to come to the Tax Office with Passport, proof of ID and other things before they'll even sort out his benefit oh! the works he'd had on his hand it's a matter of having the right person at the right time.

Do let us know how you got on keeping my fingers crossed for you.
