Due to the nature of my disability I really require a riser / recliner chair and also a ramp to get my mobility scooter in and out of my vehicle.

Sadly the chair I require is nearly £900 and the ramp another £250 and I cannot afford these at this time.

I receive DLA and was wondering if there is any scheme available that will allow you to purchase these items and then for a set amount to be deducted off your DLA over a period of time similar to that for a motability car? I don't have a motability car.

I have my car through motability im on middle rate.We get a book every quarter and its full of businesses who sell chairs, ramps etc. If you go on google and type in Motability it will give you info there. I thought id got my last book i could have dropped into you but looks like its been thown out.

Motability don't do chairs or ramps and the companies that do the chairs etc don't offer HP etc as far as I am aware. At the monet I have no interest in a motability chair as i have a fully paid for vehilce that is relaible and can hump the mobility scooter around.

I don't want the items for free and I am prepared to pay for the goods over a period of time, but when I spoke with social services they were not able to tell me if this was possible.

Are you after a specific model? If not, if you go along to your local house clearance auction you should be able to get a riser pretty cheaply, I paid £50 for the one I bought for my grandad, they seem to come up pretty frequently.

Ramps are more tricky to get cheaply, but I got mine on ebay, again for around the £50 mark. It had been used as a demo item, so was no longer pretty, but that did not really bother me.

Hi Surfer,There are loads of firms for chairs if you look on line.Have you tried ebay for the ramps i have seen them for sale on there in the disability section. Also you might pick a chair up on ebay if you type your post code in the search box.I had my recliner from SCS in kidderminster. Its electric but it dosent lift you up to standing.it cost me £799.00

Wow! £799 is way beyond what we can afford in a lump sum. I am on Pension credit at the moment but have not heard of a budgeting loan. I will have a look on eBay but it si having the £300 - £400 in hand at the moment. The only problem with eBay is that I require a made to measure one unless I can find one that is standard and is okay for me to use. Guess we will need to try and save £25 a week over the next couple of months.

Hi Surfer, just a thought i asked at shops for ex demo when i wanted electric single bed. I was lucky and Dreams in kidderminster had got one and i had it half price.

Have you tried Carters? They have chairs and suites part exchanged for new ones. Perhaps a phonecall to them asking if they could keep you in mind if one should become available. I always say if you dont ask you dont get! its wortha try.

For a budgeting loan the maximum amount you would get is as follows, if you have no other budgeting loan debt:

Single person £348

Couple £468

Family £812

You may be able to apply for a community care grant on the basis that you need these aids to be able to remain living in the community rather than going into care.

You may be able to apply for a disabled facilities grant from the council for the ramp.

I've just done a Google search for both:-

"loan for disability riser chair" and

"loan for disability wheelchair ramp"

and there are a number of links to suppliers of each, some detailing loans and grants.

I'm not sure that such commercial links are welcomed in this forum, but they are easily found on Google using the search parameters given above.

You may also be elegibile for a loan item or a direct payment from your local authority. Have a look at:

If anything I say on this forum is construed as advice, it's probably worth almost as much as you paid me for it

Hi Surfer, how are you today? You could get a bugeting loan from DWP. no interest is charged on this and payment is stopped at source before you get your pension credit. You can down load the paper work and print it yourself. Some one as already put the amounts on here in earlyier letter.Worth a try.

I agree & as much as I hate to admit it ebay is the answer. Bought the following fully reclining chair £100 with phone & electric heat & massager, electric self contained rechargeable battery bath chair £115 lift 25 stone max, NEW self propelled completely collapsible wheelchair WITH independent suspension £68 + next day delivery £15 = £83

Think i only paid £10.00 when it should have been alot more.(box was crushed)I also bought an over toilet adjustable seat with arms which cost me £56.00 alot better than the one provided by health worker which we call a gum shield ha ha.
