Hi there!

My first time on here so please bear with me!

Yes i was a very silly girl when i went through bad times a few years ago, i was out of work for over a year ill and went away and never paid council tax, just sort of thought i would be ok in my little bubble.......anyway......now im back to work full time, only come home with £197 a week and am due to go on maternity leave in November and now wages being arrested. So depressed as it will be over a year before its paid off. Have been looking to see if they will take what i have work out to be nearly £40 a week out of my maternity pay but cannot find it.

Also does anyone know if i can pay towards a wages arrestment to lower it? Im actually thinking about selling my car to get a big chunk of it out of the way but cant see if i can do this either. If anyone can help i'd appreciate it so so much as im struggling with this one.

Thank you.

can you confirm a few things?

Is a wages arrestment already in place?

If you receive £197 should only be £22 they take

Hi there IDA and LB89,

Ida i was reading the papers i was served and it says they would take £4 or 19% if over £95? So i looked online and saw it could be about £22 but i think the law changed has it not? April 2010? It would be brilliant if i was wrong!!!! That wouldnt hurt so much.

No im not actually staying at the address they had for me so i only got the letter saying i had 14 days with the one which was basically a copy of what they had sent to my work, Form 30, Earnings arrestment schedule :(

Do you know if i can pay a chunk off, and will they take it away from my maternity pay aswell? :(

ok so the arrestment has been granted but......

SMP is a protected amount as i haven't dealt with anyone yet with smp and an AOE.

I know SMP is proteced as tax credits do not take consideration of the first £100 of SMP which obviously is dependant on what smp levels you are paid from work.

If you were to make a 'chunk' this will not make any adjustments to your AOE as this goes by the amount of earnings not the amount that is due.

I would need a couple of days to check out maternity pay and AOE to see what can or cannot be done

Yes even paying off a bit to lessen how long its going to be for ( so it would be payed off not far too into my maternity pay, which would be much better for me and baby ) woud be a big help, a year would mean the baby would be 6 months old before its paid off and thats a long time when im missing £40 a week :( Just can't see anything about taking off my maternity pay. I'm guessing they probably will though. Thank you so much for your help, if you find out anything that would be great, under so much stress because of this, just feel thats me super skint in the time i need it most. Nevermind.

Thank you so so much,

Isabelle x
