Hi, my husband left Barclays seven years ago and we moved house two years ago and cleaned out all of the rubbish - which included everything to do with Barclays. We left Barclays because of the penalties they were taking from us. Husband has now approached them for the last six years statements and they say that our account number has dropped off of their system and they have no way of tracing it.

Has anybody else had this reply from the bank - can it be true? Or is there anything else we can do to trace the number?

You need to send them a full sar.

Enclose 2 forms of copy ID ....one must be a named item like passport/drivers licence/etc.

Other must contain the address ir utility bill/bank statement/tennency agreement etc.

If you lived at the same address when the account was live point this out.

If you lived at a former address then point this out too adding if opossible something with that address on.

You should give the address where the account was held, and an approximate time of the account.

That is all you are obliged to send.

They will still have your account on their systems and have to comply.

If it was a local branch then hand in the request there with the 10.00 fee.

Make sure you get a signed receipt.

If they dont offer to take it......ask for the Manager.

The address to send is in the Barclays contacts folder (Knutsford address)

It should go with their internal mail.

Good luck and do some reading up here ........

Thanks so much for that. Is there a standard S.A.R - (Subject Access Request) that I can copy?

Or what do you suggest I write.

thanks again

The letter is in the bank temps folder (see link at bottom of this post )

Just a word of advice.........if I were you I would take some more time to read all the faqs here while you are waiting on your reply.

You need to be fully clued up on the ways to proceed and have an understanding of what it entails.

Doing it right will mean less problems later...or better still none at all !

Hi there this is my first post, but noticed your request as its relevant to my situation I was with Barclays but switched to First Direct about two and a half years ago and like you I had no records of my 2 account numbers with Barclays. I called First Direct and asked them how long i had been with them which they told me. Because I knew I had to change all my direct debits and standing orders when switching I though there would be a good chance First Direct would have my old bank details with Barclays. I just asked the question and the lady on the phone at First Direct gave me both my Barclays old account numbers and the sort code. Hope it works for you

Jay
