Would you like me to explain how to calculate the 8% interest on your charges. The spreadsheets available on this site should do this for you, but I can explain how it is calculated if you wan't.

Try this spreadsheet, it is a bit more advanced but I used it and found it very good. http://www.cag-files.co.uk/barracad/Spreadsheets/England/Complex-bank-charges-calc.xls

If you have all of your statements with charges you just enter the info requested and the spreadsheet does the rest. It also allows you to enter charges and interest due to those charges which you send with your LBA, and seperatly applies the 8% interest which you apply when you file your N1 and claim. So you only have to enter all the data once. Have a look at it and just ask if you need any help.

If you want to calculate the 8% interest yourself then ;

8%/100% = 0.08 0.08/365 days= 0.00022 this is the daily rate of interest.

So if you are owed £1000 1000x0.00022=0.22 or 22p per day

You need to apply this to each charge ie ;

a £20 charge 6 years ago would have accumalated 8% interest as

Hi Bish thanks for the replies,...Do not want to sound thick but are confused now ,Is they a simple way of working this out,(Working out each charge seperately for the whole 6 years?),...Kia no wonder you are fed up,..

Recieved a letter from the bank today saying" Charges are lawful blahh blahh and the 5 refunded charges are a goodwill gesture,..Even more keen to get this spread sheet sorted out,Doing this right now,.Any input please feel free Mx.

20 x 0.0002 = 0.0044 x 2190 days since charge applied or paid = 9.636 = £9.64

So you would have to carry out this calculation for every charge applied. Much better to use the spreadsheet which has this built in. Sorry about the break, computer crashed, thats technology for you. Hope this helps.

I did the N1 claim and took it to court myself, so much more satisfying. Plus you get the court staff to give it the once over and make sure you have not made a mistake. I made two mistakes so worth doing the N1 claim. My claim is for over £8000 so had a large schedule of charges to go with it. If your claim is small it may be worth using the moneyclaim route. You realy do need to use one of the spreadsheets available on this site to calculate the interest for your claim, if you have a lot of charges over the last six years. Best wishes and good luck. If you need any help just ask.

Morning Gang,....Well BIG surprise,Abbey have sent me my full 6 years worth of charges,...Think this is another new ploy off the abbey,..As my claim was due to be in friday gone as that was the time table,..Maybe their send these to mess us around ,As we would have to amend the claim plus the costs,..Well their say they is a reason for everything,..Glad I held off with the claim for a extra few days,..Seems to be better than a estimated claim,..Will be able to do this online now as I can actually put the correct charges without the need to have a large estimated schedule,..Will have a good read over now as I am having a day off work to sort this out with the spreadsheet and things,..Good start anyway,..Mx.

Well only half the amount of the estimation,But at least its a solid claim and I know the true figure now then messing around after submitting claim,..£2096 without the interest added,..Will put this in the spreadsheet and get the interest put in place,..M.
