hi i just joined the fourm and have loads of questions but will post them seperately so i dont jam the airwaves up!

first one is how long does it take before debt collecters to start taking stuff?i owe £100 to 2 differnt collecters and am £9000 in debt with LTSB(will post this elsewhere) so far one collecter contacted me by phone about 6 months ago but have herd nothing since and the other has been sending letters but they are giving me the option to pay it off.as im not working at the mo im trying to use whatever income i can get to sort out the most important things like rent and food.i do have a motorbike that i dont want to part with and wondered if someone can just turn up at my house and take it???any info would be appreciated cheers cam

A debt collector can't take your goods. A bailiff can.

 

Bailiffs won't be called unless there has been a court order (etc. as described in the post above). If there hasn't been a claim in court then you're safe for the moment.

I really do appreciate all those 'thank you' emails - I'm glad I've been able to help. Apologies if I haven't acknowledged all of them.

Hi Camnz

 

Your priorities are you rent, council tax, tv licence, gas leccy, water.

 

Everything else is non priority debts and they will have to take what you can afford.

 

any debt collectors will threaten all sorts but can actually do very little short of taking you court.

If you do get taken to court, a Judge will take your income into account and set a payments at a level you can afford.

 

No debt collector has a right to turn up and try to take stuff, only a court can order that.

ok so is there anyway to find out if it has gone to court?ive moved a few times over the last year so they would have sent letters to another address..ive forgotten the name of the collecter so i cant even call them cheers
