Hiya, posting here cause couldn't think of anywhere else really. Problem I have is I have just got around to getting wireless router and got the internet upstairs in kids room (sick fed up not getting on mine and hearing laughing at Youtube) but what I want to know is there a program i can use to restrict the content that they can view upstairs. Oldest son is 13 and have caught him looking at what I would deem inapproriate stuff for his age. Their computer has XP mine has vista. Tried using the interent options tab on IE7 and in the content part restricting stuff to none, but when typed in an address was allowed access to porn site so that obviously doesn.t work. Do I have to do the restrictions on my comp for it to work or can I download a prog onto theirs to restrict stuff.

Any help appreciated.

Whatever you install on their machine, they will find a way to circumvent it.

Try OpenDNS.

The way this works is that all requests to a web page (the url) will go from the computer to your router.

Your router will then send that request to a DNS server - this has the job of translating the url into an address that can be understood.

(Think of it a bit like a post code being translated into a street address - If I write SW1 1AA on an envelope, the post office will translate this as Buckingham Palace.)

The way OpenDNS prevents unauthorised sites from being accessed is that when your child trys to access http://www.not_an_appropriate_web_site.com, the DNS server will translate this to a different site, that will show a message that the site is inappropriate.
