I've just realised that my provisional licence shows my old address (4 years ago). I also notice that the DVLA fines people for not changing the address in good time.

Does this apply to provisional licences as well and how exactly do they check?

It only took me about 15yrs to change all the details on my provisional ...... I came across it a few years ago while searching for something else and was surprised to see it was still valid although it was still at my parents address and in my maiden name - due to all the changes I got the then 'New' licence free of charge

I don't see that you will have an issues with the change. DVLA will process it in the normal way. They certainly don't go around cross checking against other databases such as HM Revenue and Customs or the voters register when a licence is sent back for an address change.

Thats interesting.... i got the form to change my provisional from my parents address to my current address but they wanted to charge me for a new licence!! my parents still live at the address given on my licence so any mail they did send would still be recieved, so could they still fine me for not changing the address???? and how would they know??? worried now cos I cant afford a new licence or a fine :(

AFAIK, an address change is free of charge regardless of the type of licence. In fact, you can do it on-line.

You get very confusing and contradictory information from the DVLA - they charge for updating from paper to photo licences, but not for address changes. Of course if you have a paper licence you need to get a photo licence, and that is where they contradict themselves in various documents - some appear to say you pay, some say you don't.

I was in a similar position a couple of months back - I had a full licence but with my parents address on it (and it was a green rather than pink licence, so it shows how long I had been delaying). I decided not to include payment and received a photo licence quickly. If I had included the payment I am sure they would have taken it.
