Has anyone else had problems with the Peugeot diagnostic test providing completely erroneous results? If so could you post here.

My own experience was my father's peugeot 206 and the airbag light. My local (trusted) garage said that we should use Peugeot as they had the expertise to diagnose the fault. The test cost £70 and the diagnosis was a new passenger airbag at a cost of £900 plus the possibility of a new ECU unit at a further cost of several hundred pounds.

As the cost of your repairs potentially equalled the value of the car we did not proceed with the advice given and instead sought a second opinion. The second opinion identified that the fault lay with the driver’s side and was the clock spring/contact ring in the steering wheel. The cost of this repair was £52.88.

When I visited the Peugeot dealer for an explanation he said “that’s Peugeot technology for you”.

I am currently seeking to recover the cost of the diagnostic test - not a great deal of money in the scheme of things but had we proceeded (bearing in mind it wouldn't have solved the problem) it would have negated any value left in the car. There seem to be several similar instances on the Internet and it may be worthwhile creating a test case based on misrepresentation and failure to advise that their tests are not fully accurate or backed up by expert opinion (mechanic).

Thoughts anyone?

EDITED

Anyway sensible head on now.

Did they give you a print out of the diagnostics. If not it still might be "saved" on the diagnostic equipment, ask for it, scan it, and post it or pm it back to me and I'll have a look.

How was the second opinion decision reached, more diagnostics or something else, was this at another Peugeot Dealer?

It's a guess, but i wouldn't expect the Peugoet diagnostic equipment to give erroneous results, interpretation of the results, now that's a different matter!!

I can take it :)

Joking apart, if they got your £70.00 and they don't deserve it, I might be able to help you get it back. I can pick holes in their diagnosis which will help you with your side of the argument.

I don't like to see people ripped off, Customers or Garages.

Quite agree Hammy. There is a request for help in another section where a customer had parts replaced in her boiler that did not cure the fault but they still want paying for them.

As I told her, this is the reason we call the 'experts', and I don't think you, or anyone, should be out of pocket because they were wrong.

Shame about the edit though it gave the last half of the reply more meaning.

Yeah, but I don't like being censored, it's not the way I work.

People should speak their mind and not be forced to dumb down to follow the rest of the sheep.

If someone has something to say they should be man enough to say it to my face.

Hammy, if you (or anyone else) is offensive, you (or they) will be "censored".

This isn't a forum where you can say whatever you want.

If you have something useful to say, then that is most welcome.

being a "trouble maker" is not.;)

Hi,

This is my first time posting.

I have had a similar problem with my 407. The turbo hasn't kicked in since i bought it on e-bay. I took it to a local Peugeot dealer in worthing and was told the MAF sensor was faulty. They replaced it at a cost of £250 including scanner test.

It didn't cure the fault so i took it to another spacialist in Hove and they said the turbo was faulty and also a booster sensor was u/s. I replaced both and still no turbo.

I then took it back to the worthing main dealer who scanned it again for £47, but told me he needed another two hours to diagnose the problem at a cost of nearly £200 labour, but couldn't guarantee to find the fault.

I said i would try and sort the problem myself as i'm not paying any more money for that kind of service.

Is this a rip off? They are supposed to be experts but they seem to be fumbling in the dark when it comes to diagnostics!

If anyone out there has any thoughts on my problem i would be really grateful.
