hi,,,i gave a months rent in advance, and a weeks deposit.

In one week i found i couldnt get along with the LL and so i decided i should leave by giving him a notice period of a week- pre-decided.

he says he will return the deposit but not the extra rent(of two weeks)

he says rent is always non-refundable. Since this is my first time in london, i hope im not being taken for a ride.

please advice if this is right.

Whether the rent is refundable or not, depends on the contract, but you are still very lucky to get away with leaving so early. You and your landlord have created a tenancy; an assured shorthold tenancy. The first 6 months of such tenancy are a honeymoon period, all nicey nicey- nobody leaves unless everybody agrees. For your landlord to agree that you can leave so soon, it was awfully decent of him. So no, you are not being taken for a ride (and hopefully London is going to be a great city for you)
