  1. I think the debt plan has been running for over five years, as to the card I think it's Halifax although i'm not sure and can't contact her until tomorrow. Would it be best to put this on hold until I can speak to her in the morning, then I can post again with all the details.
  2. Thank you all for your advice.. ..Firstly the debt relates to a Credit Card, A plan was arranged by CCCS (now Step Change) and has been kept up. Secondly should she complain to Cabot and the FOS, CSA.
  3. Hi Everyone, My sister-in-law recently received a phone call from a woman from Cabot (she has a payment plan in place) the woman said that as the last financial update was done last August it was time to do another one. previous to this I had always advised her re' her dealings with these people, but on this occasion she went ahead without talking to me first, during the course of the review my sister-in-law told the woman that her son was paying the council tax and rent, (her son has Aspergers Syndrome, Dyslexia and Dyspraxia and has a statement to that effect) the woman then went on to ask how much he received in benefits and also how much savings he had. My sister-in-law phoned me in a great state of distress, she is a pensioner with no savings and finds it very difficult making ends meet. I phoned Cabot and told them what had happened and that they had no right to probe into the boy's finances and that I am considering contacting the FCA. The person I spoke to put me on hold whilst he spoke to a manager, he came back and said that they were very sorry about the way things had been handled and that they would speak to the employee who made the call. To say that I am angry about this is an understatement, I really would be grateful for some advice as to how I should proceed in this matter on my sister-in-laws behalf.
  4. Thanks to you all for your advice, you're quite right Bankfodder it was a dumb move on my side, but I forgot to look up a previous thread of mine regarding the legality of recording calls. in retrospect I think they rang me to try and pressure me for an increased payment. Once again thanks to you all.
  5. SUCCESS...I received a phone call yesterday afternoon from a man who said that Sebastian James had received my email and whilst the company do charge for data recovery there would be no charge in this instance. Thank you all for your help and advice....VBR.
  6. hi dx100uk, The screen starts with the usual, Toshiba innovations and at the bottom there is what looks like a task bar, it gives you the option to click F2 which takes you into Bios, Set Up and Utilities etc. The other option is F12 can't remember what that offers. Regardless of what you do you end up with a black screen, then it starts to print a message which rolls up endlessly repeating itself, part of the message says..."media cable missing" or something like that.
  7. Hi BankFodder, I still have the machine as the only way that I could have a new hard drive and retain the data would be to pay the£80 and I baulked at this. As to backing up and making sure that data is stored safely my son usually transfers his work from the laptop to our PC but unless you do this every single day there will always be a chance you could get caught out. Being without the laptop for a while is no problem as he can do his work on the PC. As I explained to rebel11 I have sent an email to Mr James, not terse, simply giving him all the facts and finally saying that I think the charge should be waived, and yes I think County Court action would be a success as the policy is quite ambiguous.
  8. Hi rebel11, I've just sent off an email so we'll see what happens, Thanks again for your help.
  9. Thanks rebel11, I'll send off a recorded delivery letter. I'm guessing that Sebastian James would be at the Dixons Carphone head office is that correct.
  10. hi rebell11, Thanks a lot, I'll follow your advice, should I quote the Supply of goods act ? and if so which part.
  11. sorry I forgot...I paid cash for it.
  12. hi rebel11, The laptop is a Toshiba and is approx. 5yrs old. When I was speaking to the KNOWHOW tech' at no time did he mention a charge, however when the man in PC WORLD checked the notes that had been left by the "tech" there was no record of what he had said, it seems that they only record certain calls at the direction of a manager.
  13. Last July I had a hard drive replaced in my son's laptop, two months later I had a "north bridge chip" replaced in the same laptop, and just three days ago the computer crashed again, after a half hour conversation with one of the KNOWHOW people he said that the hard drive had crashed again but that they would replace it free of charge, when I asked him about the data on it he said it would be no problem for them to put the data on a flash drive and save it. When I went to PC WORLD I was told that I would have to pay £80 for the data recovery. When I queried this with them I was told that if I wanted the data I had no option but to pay. I asked to be shown this policy and he printed the relevant page and it states.. ."if you accidently delete important files, photos or home videos we can help. our state of the art technology can recover your lost or deleted files etc, etc," My point is that "I" have not lost or deleted any files, the files are still on the three month old hard drive that they put in and are only under threat because it is faulty and must be replaced. I phoned trading standards and was told that I should use "Supply of goods and services act".. Can anyone advise me on this please.
  14. Thank you both for your help. I'll let you know how I get on.
  15. I think i'll give that a try. Could be best to try the one that gives a solid liquid stream rather than a fine spray. Bit apprehensive though as I'm allergic to their sting.
  16. I just phoned council repairs, they said they could not carry out inspection whilst the nest was there, I then phoned up the dept that deals with pests and they were adamant that there was no exception to the £50 charge.
  17. Good point Claro, I'll contact the lady in the office, also i'll try repairs again, when I phoned the council I chose the "wasps" option now i'll try again using the possible internal damage slant.
  18. I live in a council sheltered housing community (1st floor flat) and have a Wasps nest in the wood cladding just five or six inches from the lounge window. When I first noticed activity I thought nothing of it, but the activity has icreased a lot and I suspect that the nest is quite large. I phoned the council and was told there was a £50 charge. The window is very large and opens on a central pivot which gives a small gap on the top and on the bottom, had it opened outward I would have tried to spray it but even then the nest must be well inside and needs specialist equipment. Does anyone have any suggestions.
  19. Thank you all for your advice...Sorry I took so log to get back to you.
  20. Hi, Does anyone know if it's a legal requirement to inform a company that you are calling that you are recording the conversation.
  21. Does anyone know if their is a letter (regarding claiming back PPI) which would be suitable to send to a Debt Masnagement Company.
  22. No I haven't sent one as yet. In fact as the FOS have told me that they have no authority over Pennington I thought that I would just send off a PPI claim letter to them, knowing that they would knock me back, and then SAR Sterling Insurance as they do come under the authority of the FOS.
  23. This is a follow up to a query that I raised re Gregory pennington. Various things have happened and I let this matter slide, however,I've decided to follow through on this. I phoned the FOS yesterday and they told me that Gregory Pennington do not come under their authority. They recommended that I first raise a complaint of mis-selling with GP and when they issue a final response, which will be negative, I should then write a similar letter to Sterling Finance who under wrote the policy .Sterling Finance DO come under the authority of the FOS. I notice that "hippyminky" raised a similar complaint on 15/11/11, so this might be of help to them. Could someone tell me where I can find the appropriate template letter for this.
