Hi there,

I recently won my case with Barclays after taking it right upto a few days before the court hearing, but when they have paid in the amount to my account they have paid me £4,000 instead of £2,000. I have checked my statement and they have but the payment through twice, should I just keep stum? are they entitled to take it as an when they want? or can i spend, spend, spend?

Any advice anybody?

Thanks,

Mick.

Please call them and point out their mistake. Remember you do not want to give them any legitimate reason to take you to court. These things do happens with banks but be the honest and morally better person

AND Congratulations on your win

I'm sure they'll pick up on this fairly sharpish.

If I were you I'd let them know and be happy you got your £2000

dont want to end up getting yourself in trouble later - tempting as it may be.

honesty being the best policy & all that jazz :)

Congrats!! but don't go on a spending spree just yet. They might take it out just as fast as they put it in (Now you see it, now you don't!:) ). You might find yourself two grand overdrawn.

There are rules regarding overpayment of any kind, and am sure that someone would tell you on this site.

Be interested to know if/when they find out.. lol.

Mick, some good advice there buddy,

Send a letter saying you are in receipt of the full payment for settlement of the recent claim and thank them for their most generous donation, which you assume is a'goodwill gesture' [LOL]

Then go on to

offer it back as recognition of error on their part.

If they say it is a goodwill gesture and its ok to keep it, get it in writing!

Do not spend it, cos you WILL have to pay it back if they request it.

It doesnt work saying,'tough it was their error'

you dont want to end up in court, paying their costs do you?

You will probably fing they take it back automatically anyway when realise.

better to be safe than sorry in this instance.

Congratulations on your payout anyway, nice work.
