I am a member of staff at Barclays Bank PLC in a small branch. I was digusted today with the footage that was shown on the program. It has made Barclays look like money grabbing idiots, which is not the case, ok charges are unjustified, but for Barclays defence they do not charge half as much as the so called leading bank HSBC, as they charged my partner £150 in one day and took it without notice, barclays on the other hand will max charge 90 over the month. To add to that HSBC will charge you to increase your overdraft even when you are trying to stop yourself from being charged! That is why im going to claim my partners charges back. If you work in a bank i would be interested to find out how you feel and deal with the pressure of selling for a bank.

Have to say I think the programme should have wrapped up by saying that these practices are industry wide and not just Barclays. Impressive bit of work though. Sorry if you are one of the good guys or gals but the problem is these work cultures don't just appear. They are made in head offices and then the staff are told to implement them. If you wnat to keep your job I guess you have to carry them out.

I think it's fair to say that the aim is get those at the top of the food chain to change their ways.

Hi Missy and welcome. I would just like to let you know that most people on this forum are well aware that staff in banks are just doing their jobs and earning a living. That investigation happened to have been Barclays, but our experience on this site is all banks charge ridiculous amounts, so please don't feel you need to defend yourself.

Personally I was more interested in the part about Yorkshire Bank charges.
