Hi,

I'm quite new to all this but this site looks great and very helpful. My housemate is with Lloyds TSB and is a student and has been for 2 years. He was told that because he was a student he shouldn't be paying interest on his account and would have his £1500 overdraft interest free. He has been paying interest ever since and has only just realised that the charges on his account were for overdraft interest.

Is it possible to get all the interest paid back, from at least the time he was told his account had been changed to a student one? How should he go about it?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks :-)

Michael

He said he was told that students shouldn't be paying interest and that he was on his standard current account. I think they were meant to transfer it to the Student account where ya get a £1500 Interest free overdraft - this obviously hasn't happened by the look of it.

Yes thats why I asked, student accounts I think dont get interest added on. He must find out why he is not on this account, and then attempt to claim the interest payments back like you would with the charges.

OK Nice one. Do ya reckon sending a letter to Lloyds TSB asking for confirmation of what type of account he currently has and tell them that he was told he should be on a student account and that this would be changed for him. And then also throw in a request for them to refund all the interest - or is that just really unlikely to happen just by asking nicely?

Try asking nicely but be ready to be forceful! Write the letter or easier go into the branch and ask to find out why he isnt on a student account, if he never requested it, then this may be a valid excuse they might make. Once he is swapped onto the appropriate account, THEN make the request, otherwise they might not swap him as percieve he could be troublesome...

Well thats what I would do If it was me,but find your own way im sure you will be fine!

Nice one Louise. Will get him to write a nice letter or pop into the branch and make sure that it gets swapped to a student account - then probably write a letter to request the refund of interest. :-)

Hi, i'm new to all this too. Does anyone know if student accounts converted to graduate accounts count. I'm with lloydstsb, and have an agreed overdraft on my account, but get charged 30pounds everytime I go over the limit, up to 90pounds.

Can I claim back on this, or is my account excluded because it is a student/graduate account?

Thanks
