I recieved a letter today, stating that a DD had bounced (Paypal...which I will also take issues with) so they had charged £38 and a further charge of £28 for going overdrawn (I have no overdraft on this account) payable on the 31st May even if I pay up immediately!

So, I phoned NatWest and the woman on the phone was incredibly rude and told me to manage my accounts better! So, I went down to the bank paid £66 in charges (£38 DD bounce and £28 for unarranged borrowing) and closed the account.

Some people may think this is a small charge, which relatively for some it is, but I'm a student and that is over a third of a months wages. Can I use this to stregthen my case?

Should I send the first letter even though I have already requested that the fees be dropped? Or should I begin from stage two?

Am also now planning to fight for my mother's NatWest account and a joint account she holds with my father for charges. Ditto HSBC. Also, thank you for this website, you are incredibly helpful.

It won't strengthen your case...

But you should certainly start the claim against them.

If you feel the total that they owe you is going to be particularly low (in relative terms!) and you already have the statements, then you might wish to bypass the DPA request and go to INITIAL LETTER stage.....

Have another read through those FAQ's and case guidance notes before you make your mind up

Cheers
