Hi

Ive been in a mental health hospital for 8 to 9 years on a section 3 of the mental health act.

My benefits stopped after a year or so after being detained.

However through my Social worker I have applied to get Esa.

And I have now recived a fortnightly payment of JSA.

Can any one make any sense of this?

Are you able to contact the DWP by phone about this? And are you sure it's actually JSA?

The reason I ask is that if you've just checked a bank account statement and the payment is showing as JSA, it may actually be a manually triggered ESA payment. For some reason, manually triggered ESA payments often show up as JSA in your bank account, whereas the routine automated payments are correctly marked as ESA.

My Social Worker has given her name and telephone number as a contact.

I do not have her phone number though I am in contact through staff at the hospital I am in.

They contact her for me. I do have Capacity though.

You know.... I did not think of the manual and automated thing you said I suppose that would make sense as it is a manual over the phone reactivated ESA>

Is that what you meant ant?

Yes, more or less. When a new claim is set up, the first payment is often triggered manually by the processor who entered the claim onto the computer. After that, the regular fortnightly payments just happen automatically as long as the medical certificate is valid or an assessment has found the claimant to be unable to work.

Well, I am pleased the DWP have the sense to put something like that in place.

I do not want to speculate for obvious reasons how they store their info.

It may be that they just have not updated the system yet from switching the benefits around for whatever reason.

I will let this thread know on Sunday/Monday if the payment has changed.

Thanks for the advice.
