 Hi, although I have been a member for a few months - this is the first have posted to the site (not very confident). Having received over £1,500 in bank charges in just over 2 years - this site has inspired me (like many others) to do something about it! I wrote my letter to RBS, to which I received no response. I then made several 'phone calls (they hadn't apparently receive my letter) and resent the letter recored delivery, with my letter before action. I have received an offer of £850 and am under a little 'pressure' from my partner to accept!!! We are very short of money at the moment (hence getting ourselves into such a mess in the first place, that we incurred so many charges) - you can imagine what the debts are like - most of which could probably have been avoided if the RBS had not been so quick to slap on their charges!

The trouble is, I'm a bit stuck and not sure what to do? My normal monthly bank charge is £12.00, this had gone up to £40 plus £38.00 everytime the RBS bounced a DD or SO (which was a lot)!! I have only claimed for the difference between £12 and £40 and each £38 they have charged us - I have not claimed any interest. I am a little worried about taking it further in case I have claimed for the wrong things and end up losing the £850! The RBS have offered this in 'full and final settlement' and state that if I accept that I cannot make any further claims. It would be our intention to move accounts shortly, although I have been with the RBS for 16 years and they have STILL treated me this way when I have got into difficulties. I would very much appreciate any help or advice.

Thanks ;)

Hi - take a bit of time to read up first to make sure that you have the facts before going too far ahead. Read the FAQs and template letters then have a good read around here to see how others are getting on.

Keep any progress on your own claim or questions that arise in a new thread in the forum for your bank to make it easier for others to follow and advise you. There's a set of links in my sig below that will help you find where all this useful information is. Well done for getting started! :)

I would restart the claim for the FULL amount of the charges - £12 doesn't come into it. By charging over the odds the FULL amount is unlawful. You really ought to claim back interest on those charges too. Whilst you can accept their offer, it's a small portion of what they really owe you. Read the FAQs and the RBS forum and see how others have done - they've got the money back in full.

Halifax joint a/c new charges £1100 - LBA sent 02/08/06

Halifax 2nd a/c (£1500 charges + £150 interest on charges) - partial payment received 13/07/06 (no s69 interest) - AQ filed 07/08/06 - Court awarded 50% of s69 interest (Bank didn't turn up!)

Halifax Visa (#1) Data Protection Act sent - statements arrived - £350 so far

Halifax Visa (#2) Data Protection Act sent - refunded £170
