After nearly five years of peace and even moving to a new home and 1 court success

I have today received what I can only think is a fishing letter from Wescot Credit Services

alleging that I owe a substantial sum of money supposedly to The Royal Bank of Scotland.

 

My first thought is that I have never had a card with RBS

but I am getting old and the grey cells have deteriorated,

and then I'm thinking well they have my new addres but as that is open to the public why not but ???????????????

 

From my experience with CAG I'm telling myself not to react but to wait and see,

so my immediate question is do CAG know anything about this Hull based outfit?

Hi Wescot have been chasing a lot of old accounts lately, does this letter state what type of account this is? Definitely a credit card ?

 

Can you recall the last time you would have had any financial dealings over credit card?

 

Meanwhile a CCA request is the way to start. £1 statutory fee, us a postal order or cheque, marked clearly for statutory fee only. Use the template from the CAG library, they have 12+2 working days to comply.

Thank you for responding.

In answer to your second question my last dealings regarding a credit card was back in 2009

and the details are with my record on CAG.

From then on nothing.

 

Regarding the first question the letter does not actually say Credit Card but the client reference number looks suspiciously like the 16 digit number usually found on the card.

 

Brigadier would I be correct in suggesting that to respond immediately to what I can only assume is a fishing expedition my be a little premature?

 

Thank you for your help I honestly thought these days were long gone and at 68 I really don't need them. The cards must be at least 12/15 years old.

Hi Wescot are now part of a company that is very pro active on the accounts they have acquired.

So phishing trip or not the CCA request is where to start.

BTW we are of like age.

The best thing to do with DCAs is to respond as slowly as possible because every day takes you closer to statute barred. :-)

 

They are debt chasers, not debt buyers, so can't issue proceedings or anything like that. Only the original creditor can do that.

 

I would ignore the first letter, see if they write again, and if they do then respond very slowly and say you have no idea what they are talking about.

There is no time deadline on the letter just the words "You should read both sides of this notice carefully, follow the instructions and reply IMMEDIATELY. If you have any queries etc etc;

Then the last sentence is PLEASE CONTACT US AS SOON AS POSSIBLE AS FAILURE TO DO SO WILL RESULT IN FURTHER RECOVERY ACTION.

 

Oh dear here we go again.

These letters are designed to frighten and intimidate, just send the CCA request by recorded/signed for post addressed to the compliance manager.

There ''immediately'' requirement is meaning less!!

Dont forget to keep an eye on any payments they may claim you have made - you know the type - it suddenly appears just to keep it away from being SB :jaw:

Hi guys, well here we go again. Just got home. They have not responded to my CCA request (complete with £1 p.o.) but somehow have got hold of my ex directory telephone number and kindly left me a message asking me to contact them. Oh dear, where do we go from here. I have now blocked their telephone number on my all singing all dancing new BT phone system.

Hmm that's the problem with 'ex directory' numbers on not in the BT directory but available easily elsewhere.

Pleased you can block them!!

12+2 working days for compliance with the CCA request so probably only just being actioned.

Well Bless Em, Westcott have just telephoned me again about an hour ago. It went to the answering service despite it being a blocked call. They must have brilliant technology available. However, it is now 9 days since I sent them the CCA request with a £1 P.O. I wish they would reply to me in writing as requested in the letter. I wonder if I should send them the address of my local county court just to help them? No? I agree I'll continue to be patient.

"I note the content of your letter, dated xx/xx/xx, in which you assert that I “must” contact your company “immediately,” and “as soon as possible.”

Therefore, I find it quite surprising that your company sent such an apparently urgent letter by Second Class Post."

 

They never seem to have an answer for that one. ;)
