Hello everyone!

I have just taken a holiday abroad for 1 week and was hoping to too feel better but am now going to have to re-apply for Income support with the incapacity benefit element.

Can someone tell me if the form for Income Support/Incapacity Benefit asks if you have been abroad recently? and if it asks you where? Or does it just say something like have you been abroad for x amount of time or something?

Thanks

It will ask if you have been working abroad.

If you were previously on benefits then of course they are likely to want to know what you have been doing recently.

If you withdrew your claim because you was going abroad then you have nothing to worry about.

Although if you are going to be applying for backdated housing benefit and Council tax then it may affect payments for that week you was away.

Hopefully someone else will clarify/add more.

Whatever questions they ask there will be good reason-just answer honestly and you should be fine.

I don't know much about the IS/IB claims but JSA and IS for Lone Parents are usually asked one or both of the following as part of the telephony process if its a new claim.

Have you returned to the UK or arrived in the UK in the last 2 years? - this is usually only relevant if you lived abroad and did one of those two recently, so holidays would not count for "returning" purposes in this question.

Have you worked or claimed benefit outside the UK in the last 5 years?

If you are making a Rapid Reclaim then over the phone you may be asked if you have been abroad at any time since your last claim ended. They will ask why you were abroad but if the answer is for a holiday they don't usually need any more information.

Whether you'll get asked more at the Jobcentre I don't know.

they ask on ESA and JSA so I am going to assume that yes they will, the reason being is they have to determine if people are habitually resident in the UK and whether they have a right to claim benefit, if it is a case of a weeks holiday then it will go no further than that. Make sure this is clear when you complete the claim

You shouldnt have shut your claim for one weeks holiday, there would have been no problem with it for I.S purposes
