DVLA have passed my OH's debt onto debt collectors because a vehicle that was declaired sorn for 3 years didn't have the sorn 'updated' as the vehicle was left at his old place of work and they have done what they want with it (Broke, sold it etc?)

The thing is we don't know how dodgy this is, first of all he recieved a letter from a fake holding company who claimed they were holding the vehicle on behalf of staffordshire police because he hadn't paid a DVLA fine. So he went to the police and they said they have no record of it what so ever and to ignore it and if they pester then report it.

Ok so now, dvla send us an updated fine for not paying a fine? which we had never recieved. now its gone to midlas legal services who are threatening court action.

Anyone know what we can do?

A SORN must be renewed every year and there is no excuse for not doing so.

As this vehicle is still in your name and has not been logged with the DVLA as being dismantled or scrapped, then the payment for not declaring will stand.

The DVLA usually take the easy route of a collection company before they use the courts to enforce payment, but that is an option they can use.
