  1. A three-year-old boy has died after drowning in a swimming pool at a David Lloyd fitness club in Leeds. Police were called shortly before 9.45am on Saturday to the club on Tongue Lane after a report that a child had entered the pool and drowned. The boy was taken to Leeds General Infirmary where he was later pronounced dead. Hi again everyone, Im getting older and moaning more about things, I visited my local swimming pool with my nephews last week, I took my snorkel and mask my nephew took his mask, we were using them in the pool till we were told masks are not allowed in the pool I pointed out that there was no signs warning this only no diving in the shallow end It was told to me the life guards need to see our faces in case we got in trouble and the mask covers our nose was not allowed, I said nose clips are allowed but was told it made it difficult for the life guards (I presume to carry out cpr) so the manger was called out to talk to me about the mask he repeated the same I asked for contact details for me to talk to someone about it, He said he would provide them when i leave and i left the masks on the side of the pool. We carried on swimming 15 mins later the whistle blew and we were told swimming was over least to say i was miffed that we only got 35mins too and no time tables are up in the reception area and paid £11.00 to swim. I stopped at the reception on the way out and asked the receptionist to call for the manger he came and gave me the contact details I sent a email that evening pointing out no prices are advertised or timetables and about the face masks got a reply next day, He put in his email that ; Normal operating procedure, Section 3.4.4 Genaral pool rules, bullet point six "No face masks/snorkels/beach balls unless in a designated and supervised session" And also he put in the email that it could take time to carry out CPR, there are timetables on their website or on request from the receptionist or in the wetroom and nothing at all about prices, the next day I visited the centre and spoke to the manger who emailed me and asked him for a copy of the General pool rules, the manger went too obtain a copy and came back 15 mins later told me he spoke to head office and couldn't give me a copy because of the data protection act, While I was waiting for him I noticed they are selling swimming masks for children plus ear plugs (I would have thought some one wearing earplugs in a swimming pool wouldn't be able to ear a wistle very well). The bits I need help with. 1) Does data protection act come into this as it is a public swimming pool and i wanted to see the rules as there are no signs giving warnings or restrictions. 2) Do they have to put time tables and prices at the reception for the public to see, As on better org web sites there are different prices and the time tables can be confusing. 3) The masks are on sale to the public and I was using the mask in the public pool and as we know now Vinnie Jones tells us only to kiss the miss's and pump the chest instead.

I purchased a swimming pool from uk sports import less than 2 months later the seam has come apart leaving a hole.i paid £99 for this pool when I contacted this company and sent in a picture of where it has come apart their response was that it was not a manufactures fault and they would not be taking my complaint any further.i am very disappointed in the company's response and I am now having to take this further to get this situation sorted

This may be a small thing, but I want to vent that rant The other day I wanted to go swimming... so I drove to a Virgin Active gym... and they don't let me in and tell me I've got to become a member first... so I ask how to become a member... so they give me a form, where they ask me for: * occupation * name of my employer * how often I exercise * how many children do I have and what are their ages etc. etc. Seriously? I just want to use your swimming pool! Why do you ask me for the name of my employer and how many children do I have? Haha. And they ask me for some exhorbitant fee per month. Gave up on them and went elsewhere --- no questionnaire needed to go swimming at the Active Centre.
  5. Hi there, I am hoping to find out where I stand on this. We pay for my sons swimming lessons in blocks of 10, and pay 2 weeks in advance. They have a no refund policy if children are ill during the 10 week block and have to miss lessons. During this block of lessons my son had an ear infection and his ear drum burst. He has been advised by his Dr that he can not swim for up to 8 weeks. He has already missed the last lesson before Christmas and yesterday. Yesterday was pay week at swimming and we rang them up for some advice, we were told that if we didn't pay yesterday for the lessons that begin in a fortnights time we would lose his place. We were told to pay yesterday and then go to Drs on Monday and ask for a letter 'to tell them why he is really off'! and they would credit the lessons he has missed to his 10 next 10 week block (the 1 after the 1 we have just paid for). We went and paid yesterday. I then found out that the Drs would charge me £25 to write the letter. We called the swim school back to ask for a refund of the money we had paid yesterday as we had paid 2 weeks in advance of the first lesson starting and lose his place. I was point blank refused. I feel like we have been led up the garden path slightly on this - just to be clear, I am not asking for a refund of the lessons my son has missed I am asking for a refund of the money I paid yesterday for the lessons due to begin in 2 weeks.   6. Hi, I have a small problem with the swimming pool: I enrolled my daughter for swimming lessons and all was well for about 6 months. Eventually she moved up to stage 3 but after a few lessons her new swimming teacher decided she should go back to stage 2 (Daft ASA classification insists on perfect strokes and a variety of them too but that's another story). Apart from the humiliation I wasn't too impressed with the handling of the matter so I cancelled the lessons. Since we pay in advance the pool owes me 2 months. I asked whether I could use the balance for something else but they said no, "money paid is not refundable or transferrable". My issue is that since stage 2 is too easy and stage 3 too advanced their services do not suit anymore. All they offered is to freeze my membership for a month which is no use whatsoever. The terms and conditions do not say anything about refunds or transfers so some consumer law should apply. There is also the small matter of a lesson cancelled by the pool due to lack of teacher where, according to their terms, they should have offered me lesson free of charge which of course never happened. It takes two days to get an email reply from some daft woman and the receptionists are equally daft and have no decisional power anyway. It is not a lot of money but I HATE being fobbed off! Any idea where I stand and what can I do about it? Thanks
