  1. As the Vehicle Registration Document (V5) tells you; Registered Keeper is not necessarily the legal owner. So no benefit in retaining at all. H
  2. Hi Majik, The PPI will remain in force until either the Insurer has sent you a formal letter/notice of cancellation of at least 7 days notice or they have issued a formal policy cancellation schedule. Was there anything in the new loan/PPI application authorising cancellation of the existing PPI policies? You could also try doing a DPA/SAR request with payment to the PPI insurer(s). H
  3. My vets here in rural Devon has a large laminated sign on the wall to the effect that anyone who has their animals insured with E & L will have to settle their vets bill initially themselves. The vets have given up trying to obtain reimbursement from E & L directly. A far from glowing endorsement! Be warned. H
  4. Hi, Sounds to me like OP posssibly had Comprehensive cover in the UK, took the car to Germany without buying Continental cover, in which case cover in Germany would be Third Party Only cover (Or German equivalent). Many insurance policies issued in the UK still do not offer Continental cover. There is still a requirement to buy extra cover (The old 'Green Card' cover - although there is now no need to actually have a 'Green card' in EU countries). H
  5. Hi, Royal Mail is now actually only a trading name of Consignia Plc. [PLC = Public Limited Company] H From Companies House:- WebCHeck - Select and Access Company Information
  6. Cheers Marc, stirling work! Come on folks, sign up, your opinion does matter. H
  7. The convicted drivers parents are allegedly worth in excess of £130MILLION, they own the Buxted Chicken brand amongst others. Liability is not in doubt, one would think that the insurance company (He is insured by Japanese-owned Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance of the UK. Shame on them!) OR the parents would promptly put their hands in their pockets!:o To top it, before this case came to court, this driver was stopped for speeding. Shocking! H
  8. VERY SURPPRISED AND DISTURBED at the tone of some of the postings here. Regardless of our current/past earnings and mistakes (Which I am sure that we have all made!) these forums are about helping each other without standing in judgement. Come on folks. Constructive comment please! Follow the spirit of the forum. H
  9. Hi all, I have to say that this thread is going around in circles! Dazzlin 73, you are missing the point entirely. Bottom line - Your wife reveresed into a stationery car, therefore in law she is 100% liable. FULL STOP. Not what you want to hear, but fact. I had someone park there car in my front garden, about 50 yards from the highway and I reversed my car through my gates into my front garden, not expecting anything to be there, it should have been the case. I was held 100% liable and I had to pay for all damage. This chap took a diabolical liberty, but if was my fault. FULL STOP. H
  10. Thanks everyone who has signed so far, still plenty more spaces to sign! H
  11. Hi, First of all, thanks to the powers that be at CAG for agreeing to let me post this thread. I have no personal association with the campaign or individuals involved, but I do feel that there is merit in the petition started. Please feel free to drop in to the website and support the petition if you feel as I do. Thank you. Help Cerys
  12. Have to comment here, it depend's! If the insurance company discovers something whereby they wish to invoke policy cancellation then they should write to you at your last known address giving art least 7 days notice. There is no obligation to use other than normal postal services. However, if you do not pay a renewal premium, cover can be cancelled from renewal date. If you pay by an instalment arrangement, the credit agreeement will stiplulate the procedure. In many cases, these state that the insurer can cancel policy cover from the DUE DATE, so if not paid on say 7th of the Month. By the time the insurance company finds out, it might be a few days later, they can cancel the cover immediately (Should they choose), retrospectively to the DUE DATE. Normally, an insurance company will not cancel on the first time, they want to hang on to your business! However, if not paid the second time or following writing to you within so many days then they will cancel from the due date. In these cases, they are not obliged to write to you to advise that they are going to cancel. You will probably just be advised that it was cancelled! H
  13. Tiglet, Quite honestly, she has that effect on everyone! Referred to in our home as the 'Wicked Witch of the West' Had to buy her a new broomstick for her birthday! H
  14. Following on from another post. No discussion required, just stating a fact. Spawn of the devil! H p.s. Neither does my wife!
  15. I totally agree with you that we are being fleeced (Sorry! ) However, the quote refers to "30% of the Uk's daily output ", that's not the same as our consumption. Does anyone know what the UK's estimated use of oil is? I have to say that with the scaremongering 'Don't panic buy!' messages etc. We cannot be that dependant on imports if there is going to be shortages in such a short period of time. H
  16. Hi Hamish, I would ask your domestic insurer to add an endorsment to your main policy noting the garage is separate and at xyz address (If if has a separate address!), you'll also have to ensure that the reinstatement sum insured on buildings reflects both the house and the garage structures (On the assumption that you own the garage!). If they do this, it SHOULD also pick up the public liability aspect (Normally refered to as 'Family Liabilities'). They might charge an additional premium. To arrange a separate liability cover will be prohibitive on cost, a minimum premium will apply. H (A commercial insurance broker by profession!)
  17. Hi, Your contract, verbal or written is with 'your' garage and so it is for them to sort out. Stick to your guns! H
  18. Think you might be missing the wood for the trees! How about GE Money Consumer Lending Limited? H
  19. Thanks Guidot, You confirmed my thoughts on the Limited Company side. Without giving too much away, this is a car showroom with adjacent private dwelling. In basic terms, the Council is trying to stop him parking his own family cars (Albeit owned by the Company as you would expect) on his own private driveway! The council are 'staking him out' and are threatening to shut down his business and fining him personally!:o It really now boils down to the question, can he as a private individual DPA SAR a local district council (Local Government)? Cheers!
  20. Hi, I would agree with Ell -enn here, but even when you have the prepaid card, most of the companies that issue the card expect you to notify them of your plans to hire a car before you travel abroad. They have to lift a block on 'Car Hire', the one exception. Another option is to pre-book the car hire in the UK, most travel agents could pre - book in the UK and you pay them and pick up vouchers or the like. H
