Hi ,

I wonder if anyone can give me any advice on taxing a car...?

At he weekend i bought an old cheap run around car from a trader on

e bay, with tax and MOT - or so i thought. Before veiwing the car i

checked on the DVLA website and they said it was taxed until the end

of July this year, we veiwed the car and the trader said the same and

looking breifly at the tax disc it didnt register that the disc was a

year out of date until we actually got the car home..

I have enquired with DVLA and it turns out the car was kept by a

registerd disabled person, so was technicaly taxed for him, but i

need to take the documents to the DVLA office in Maidstone to re-

licence it as not disabled. The problem is i didnt get the new

keepers suppliment from the Trader, as this didnt seem important as

we thought the car was taxed. Having spoken to him he has sent it all

off to DVLA, but was very apolagetic and has refunded me the cost of

2 months tax.

The problem i now have is that i cant tax the car with out the

registration document or new keepers suppliment, and DVLA say it will

take about 4 weeks for the document to come back in my name, and

until then the car is registerd in the disabled persons name and so

therefore tax isnt due.

So the advice i need is has anybody had a simelar situation recently

and manged to get tax? Does anyone know of any ways round it without

waiting 4 weeks? Are there any loopholes in the DVLA rules that

anyone knows or has discoverd? All i need is the new keepers

supliment from the old style document....

Have recently bought trade car, that had no log book or tax,we had to go to nearest dvla office with current mot certificate and valid insurance certif for car, they taxed it there and then and we paid £19 for a new log book, which we recieved about 2-3 weeks later.
