I sent off my request for repayment two weeks ago. I said that I wanted £800 refunded and that it may be a higher figure but I didn't have the figures to hand. I received a letter on Sat offering that amount, I signed the letter to say I agreed and sent it back yesterday. Today I get a letter saying they were offering me nearly double that and had calculated my charges as substantially more than £800. I 'phoned up the service team and they are going to call me back when they have looked into it. But have I shot myself in the foot by agreeing the first offer, or can I tell them to ignore it and demand the second one? Sorry if this is a bit confusing, am new to this!

you may still be able to accept the second offer too. It depends what they said in their first letter. Did they say that this was an offer of full payment and included stipulations?

At what stage was you at when they offered you a refund? Did you send them a DPA??

keep us informed and good luck

Hi, both letters are exactly the same, obviously a template, and they both say

'HSBC is prepared to make a payment to you in the sum of £xxx representing the charges applied in full and final settlement of the matter.'

I only sent them the prelim letter by the way, so replied quite quickly!

if i was you i would sign and send the second letter back to them and see if they send you a second refund, if they send you more than you claimed then keep hold of the extra and claim the interest on it. Dont spend it thought incase they ask for it back.

It does seem tho that they have sent you a settlement letter to stop you taking it any futher.

Let us know if you get a call off them and what they say.

Got a call back just before 3. Spoke to a guy who said that they would offer me the second offer, and they would just top up the first offer if it had already been authorised if you get me! So getting just under £1500. Have to say, the guy I spoke to was great, apparently he has only been there a week. He was clear and concise and very helpful. I know the banks are money grabbing whatnames most of the time but it was good to speak to someone friendly for once!

By the way he said that they are totally inundated with people claiming money back, so to anyone else battling with them, keep going!!

They calculated the figure for me and actually came out with a higher sum than I did! They offered about £100 less than the final figure (it was £1456, they offered £1333) but I figured this was good enough. Am amazed it was so simple, don't know how or why!

Congratulations..........remarkable result.

Is this a new tact ????

THEY actually calculated it for YOU ?

Is this the fastest and least problematic payout to date ...........................

Gives hope for all the HSBC claimants !!!

All I did was send them the prelim letter, and I quote:

'I calculate that you have taken in excess of £800 in direct debit and overdraft charges. I cannot give you the exact sum as I cannot recall every charge, but trust you could give me the exact figure. I have drawn an approximate figure from the records I have. In the last 6 months alone the total is £330.'

I don't know why it got sorted so quickly, but I do want to give people hope. I am rubbish at standing up for myself etc, and god knows what I would have done if they had said no, but it just shows you. and all thanks to Consumer Action Group, can't stress enough how important this site is!

Mind you, they've got to put the money in my account yet!
