Hi, thanks for the great site and helpful advice.

I'm setting out to reclaim over £3,000 in charges taken from me by the Halifax since January 2001.

In order to get things started, I went into my local branch last week and simply asked the girl at the counter for a complete list of all the penalty charges that have been taken over the past six years. She briefly consulted with her superior, a frightful old dragon that I've dealt with before, and then wrote down my address and told me she'd sort it out. I have to admit I was sceptical, and anticipated having to go higher up the food chain.

To my surprise I received a large bundle of envelopes in the post less than a week later, containing a full set of duplicate statements dating back to January 2001. Not quite the six years I'd asked for, but good enough.

I sat down with a cup of tea, a highlighter and MS Excel, and added up all the charges they'd had off me over five years. I knew it was a lot, but I wasn't expecting the total to come to £3,223!

I've just completed the preliminary letter from this site's library and printed out list of charges and total from Excel, and I'm going to send it off just as soon as my CAG labels arrive.

I'm very encouraged by the account by Martin3030 on the "Success Stories" page. It sounds as though his circumstances are almost identical to mine, so hopefully I'll have a similarly successful result.

Thanks again for your help; wish me luck!

  • 4 weeks later...

I received a reply from the Halifax on January 30th, the usual "I am sorry to learn that you are unhappy..." form letter that other users have reported receiving, stating that they will respond within 4 weeks. Since it is now more than 14 days since I received this letter, with no further response from the Halifax, should I now go ahead and send the Letter Before Action?

Hi

Firstly start a thread in the Halifax forum as this means you will get ppl whoi have dealt with Halifax on hand to answer your questions.

Secondly...read FAQS thouroughly so you have a good idea of what the process is.

Thirdly...send the LBA once the time schedule you have set up has expired

Good luck
