After watching "The Money Programme" on BBC2 I have decided to take action. I have always wanted to but never knew how to go about doing it or even if I could.

The money programme and this website have been amazing and I now know I can get back what is rightfully mine. I have 2 claims to do. One with Halifax which is the smaller of my 2 claims at £837 and one with Barclays for which I have no idea how much but it will be quite a bit more. I have today sent off to get all my statements from the last 6 years.

In my rush and before I had even found out about this website I followed the instructions on the money programme website BBC NEWS | Business | How to claim back penalty charges, highlighted charges on copies of my bank statement and sent them along with this form to my halifax branch.

Can some take a look at this form and just check it is ok

And i'll keep you all updated. Wish me luck :)

The letter is fine except for the bit about taken action after 14 days without any further warning. You would be wise to send a Letter Before Action (templates are on this site) giving them another 14 days before commencing court action. This is standard procedure expected by the courts if the claim ever got that far. Don't forget to send by registered post as these letters have a habit of getting lost.

Good Luck

David

  • 2 weeks later...

Today had standard letter back.... "I am sorry to learn you are unhappy with charges applied to your account".... blah blah blah...... 4 Weeks... blah.

Tomorrow is the deadline for the 14 days, so I will be posting an LBA.

Quick question. Should I address the letter to the person who has sent me this letter which is Joanne Carmichael at customer relations or just send to head office.. or even my branch?

Send all letters like this to the Trinty Road address in Halifax, as that is their registered office and the address they say is for service of legal documents.

You can also send them to the Leeds PO Box address, they end up in the right department either way.

Just about all incoming mail to the Hx is scanned and entered onto their system in that way.
