Hi new user here, looking for advice

Basically I went out (on the bus) and mistakenly took my sibling's 16+ student oyster card instead of my 18+ student oyster card. I didn't realise this mistake until I brought it out to show the ticket inspector. I explained to him what had happened, he took my name and address and confiscated the 16+ oyster card, and left me with the impression that the matter was sorted.

Now today have received a letter from transport from london, telling me that the facts of the incident are being considered and that legal proceedings may be taken against me.

I have responded to the letter, hopefully it reaches them within the next four days, but I wanted to find out what usually happens in these types of incident. It was a genuine mistake, but it seems like the ticket inspector may not have told them that.

I don't believe it was a genuine mistake.

I live with 2 other people and NEVER pick up someone else's pass/wallet by mistake.

Thanks for the unhelpful comment.

I live with 7 other people, things like this happen
