Hi all.

I have bought a car but want to keep my personalised reg, I'm supposed to be exchanging cars along with the balance tomorrow.

I need to put my reg on retention, my question is if I attend to a local dvla office with the relevant documents will they issue a new V5 for my 'old' car on the spot or will I still have to wait for weeks?

Thanks

No they do not issue a new number plate and V5 "on the spot". The new plate number is usually advised first typically in a week to 2, then the new V5 follows.

It's not an instant job I'm afraid.
