What, if anything, does it say in the terms and conditions of your Contract of Employment that relates to training or qualifications?

Has this woman got a compulsive courses disorder or something? Do you mean you're now better qualified than the manager as in the manager who is ordering you to do all these degrees? (and why are you having to do an English course? Infact who the hell are you managing there - rocket scientists?)

 

Tell her to get knotted and go demote herself!

 

When you were promoted to manager surely you recieved some sort of written communication on the matter and maybe a payrise etc? Or a job description? If you are sure there was never anything in writing then there is also possibly nothing to prove you're doing a manager's job currently either. Were you to be demoted and to take that further that might well be how they'd try to argue it.

 

If any or all of those courses are not an essential element for the specific nature of your job role then I think I'd be politely but firmly pointing that out to her. If still she insists then stick a grievance in. Pin them down on this - let them come up with the supposed conditions that were in writing and also formally have to explain exactly why you need these qualifications in order to fulfill a role you have already been doing adequately for at least a year and when you are already better qualified than the person you replaced.
