Happy 5th Wedding Anniversary to me

 

A year ago today a repossession order was handed to me at my front door, giving us until 7th May to vacate.

 

I waited until my husband and kids were asleep and cried bitterly.

 

Then I went and threw myself at the mercy of the council.

 

I did all the right things, house was on the market, handed an N244 form in, but the judge granted possession anyway.

 

The council put us in a B & B with all 5 kids and I thought I was the biggest failure ever, no business, no job, no home, no hope.

 

Then, we started a smaller business, running it from my in laws house, and we found a private rental and discovered 'housing benefit'.

 

I spent months of bitterness, watching as the financial climate worsened and the government started making plans to help small businesses, and people threatened with repossession, railing against it being too late for me.

 

Then my baby got meningitis in December and with perfect clarity my priorities became crystal clear and some perspective came back into my life. Fortunately she recovered, and I would lose 20 houses all over again rather than suffer another weekend like that.

 

We're all alive, we're all together. Things are still tough, but we're coming out the other side now. There is finally light at the end of the tunnel.

 

I think perhaps I'm just putting things in order for me, but if it helps anyone to know you can survive it, and you are not a failure then something good will have come from all of it.

You are so right about the priorities of our life. It is so easy to let money cloud our vision of what is really important. I know that my kids are more important to me than the problems debt creates. In the times when I felt so depressed that I felt I could not go on, I simply put a picture in my head of the affect loosing me would have on them and I knew I could never do that to them. Now I have passed the worst and though I am homeless and my kids now live with my ex-wife, I am making progress in the right direction.

I am glad to hear that your little one is OK, reading your story did bring old feelings back, I too am OK now but at the lowest point in the small hours when there seams no way out then you can lose perspective. I think the thing about this site is realising that so many have similar problems and you are never alone however bad it gets. Debt is like being in a tunnel eventually if you keep going you will come out the other end.

Can i just ask what the situation is now regarding the sale of your house, are the mortgage company still chasing you for payments of the shortfall.
