Hi everybody,

I'm not sure if perhaps I'm getting out of my depth a bit. I sent a letter to Abbey (BBC Money programme template) requesting £1,000 to be credit to my account in 14 days. Letter was accompanied by all the relevant bank statements going back to 2002 when I opened my account. I stated that after the 14 day period I would register a claim with the small claims court. The letter was received by them on 20th December (not a good date, I know) and by my reckoning the 14 working day period is up on 15th January. They replied to me on 29th December saying that they would investigate the matter and would be in touch within 4 weeks, completely ignoring my 14 day deadline.

My question is: do I call their bluff and register with the court on 15th January or do I wait the 4 weeks. My gut feeling is to register with the court but it's a big step! Help.

Hi Hoepelman,

You are not the first person I have come across who has used the BBC letters, one of my husbands friends recently asked for my help and he produced the letter that he had got from the BBC website. The only thing I found is that the letters are not really written in the same way as ours... and in the SAR (or their equivalent to our SAR) they statements are requested... but so is the money (even though the letter also says that you don't know how much they owe!).

It may be worth using the templates on here?

Hope that Helps ;)
