I have already started to try and claim back a series of excessive charges with Abbey (e.g for honouring a 79p debit card transaction when overdrawn = £30.00 charge!!!) I was only overdrawn in the first place as a bank charge I was not expecting pushed me over my overdraft limit which then set off a chain reaction of £30.00 charges for small transactions that occeued afterwards (it is not an account I use very often). I was so angry when I received my statement showing what had happened (they had taken some charges already and told me there were more coming) that I withdrew any money in my account (I was in credit) and left £1.00 in, I have just received a letter telling me I am £208.00 overdrawn (this must be all charges as I cancelled all D/D's etc..) . I have already written a letter of complaint to the bank who have offered £50.00 as a gesture of goodwill !!! (which I will not accept) What I am wondering is if it is better to put my account in credit and then claim the charges back, or fight to get a credit put back on my account??? obviously I am worried about my credit rating. Any advice would be appreciated

Hi and welcome

The action of getting your money back will not make any difference to your credit rating. Your account does not need to be in credit to do this, so my advice is to have a read of the FAQS section and then follow the process shown on the site, as this is a tried and tested (very successfully) procedure. Send of your DPASAR to begin the process, there may be other charges from the last 06 years that you can claim back. Also start a thread in the relevant bank and ask any questions you may have there as others in the same boat as you wil be able to offer advice, and your journey will be helpful to newbies too!

Good luck

Hi:)

Do you mean that you are worried about them closing your account if you start action?

If so, they cannot do anything with the account until it is out of dispute, i.e. until they have paid up! so they can't demand the o/d back or default you etc. If they do close your account after the claim is ended and they may well do (although read this for interest....

Open another account now if you can but if you are struggling because of poor credit then read this thread....

Like Mrsfoot says, start your own thread in that section of the forum so that people are equiped to help you when/if need be.

Good luck
