I have already started to try and claim back a series of excessive charges with Abbey (e.g for honouring a 79p debit card transaction when overdrawn = £30.00 charge!!!) I was only overdrawn in the first place as a bank charge I was not expecting pushed me over my overdraft limit which then set off a chain reaction of £30.00 charges for small transactions that occeued afterwards (it is not an account I use very often). I was so angry when I received my statement showing what had happened (they had taken some charges already and told me there were more coming) that I withdrew any money in my account (I was in credit) and left £1.00 in, I have just received a letter telling me I am £208.00 overdrawn (this must be all charges as I cancelled all D/D's etc..) . I have already written a letter of complaint to the bank who have offered £50.00 as a gesture of goodwill !!! (which I will not accept) What I am wondering is if it is better to put my account in credit and then claim the charges back, or fight to get a credit put back on my account??? obviously I am worried about my credit rating. Any advice would be appreciated
