I am looking for people to start a housing co-op with. This doesn't necessarily mean actually living with other people in the same house, although that is an option.

 

Some housing co-ops already exist and they are very successful, but nobody seems to know about them.

 

A housing co-op is a legal structure (a sort of Ltd company) which is mutually owned by its members. The beauty of it is that it is possible to start one with virtually no money and be able to access loans from existing co-ops & other strange sources to get a deposit together. The co-op can then get a mortgage just like an individual does and hey presto ! - the co-op owns a property which it then can rent out to it's members.

 

The legal structure allows the tenants to receive housing benefit to use to pay the rent if they are unemployed or on low incomes.
