Easy. If you drill down to the local settings for the FireFox broswer in the account you want to copy from, you'll find a file called bookmarks.html. Just drop that into the local settings for the other account and you're done, so, for example:

 

C:\Documents and Settings\\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\\bookmarks.html

 

copies to

 

C:\Documents and Settings\\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\\bookmarks.html

 

Firefox's bookmarks are then replicated in the other account.

Thanks Tez, I've done that and it worked like a charm. Unfortunately, I am like a dog with a bone and the last thing is winding me up. I cannot access network connections on the main account (well, I can access it but it is blank). I can click on manage wireless networks and that's ok. It's just when I click on Manage Network Connections that it comes up blank.

 

I have tried to restore them to the default settings but I get this message:-

 

The Network Connections folder was unable to retrieve the list of network adapters on your machine. Please make sure that the network connections service is enabled and running.

 

 

Surely, this is a simple thing to repair. I can access the connections on the other user account but not the main one. I only have a 512mb pen drive as I have recently lost my good one (along with my house keys), so I don't want to have to put one program at a time on to my pen drive to transfer it to the new admin account. It would take forever.

Hmm...this one's curious, since Windows should natively be able to recognise and configure its own connections (wireless and LAN).

 

If you jump into the command prompt whilst in the problem account, what do you get in response to an ipconfig command?

Do I have to type the results down manually Tez, or is there a simpler way. I have just right clicked on the results and it gave me the option to mark it.

right-click to Mark, which will put a flashing block in the upper left. Hover over it and click and hold the left mouse, drag a white square over the information, then press Ctrl+C to copy it.

 

You can then paste it to the thread.

 

If the info runs over more than the window of the command prompt, open Notepad, mark and copy the top bit, paste to Notepad, scroll the command window down, mark and copy the next bit, paste to Notepad, and repeat until Notepad contains all the returned information from the ipconfig command.

 

Finally, do a master copy/paste from Notepad to here.

That's interesting. Are you using separate WiFi connection hardware, like a plug-in card? Or are you connecting to the net through some software made by Virgin? Essentially, your wireless connection has been hijacked by something made by Virgin which is handling the connections. This might be completely kosher, but it doesn't appear to be Windows doing it in a native state.

 

Regardless, you appear in the first instance to have the old IPv6 temporary address problem. This really buggers about with desktop systems, as your lease expires from under you, screwing your connection.

 

Punch this into your command prompt:

 

netsh interface ipv6 set privacy state=disabled

 

Reboot the laptop, then go back into this account. Repeat the ipconfig command and copy/paste here, but this time I'm only interested in this bit:

Sorry, SOD'EM, I've been a little remiss in keeping up with this thread.

 

Your latest posted settings all look fine now; you are connected to your router at 192.168.1.1 and it are connecting from the IP address of 192.168.1.5. This has either been dictated by the laptop or dished out by the router via DHCP.

 

Since you've not posted again, can I assume this problem has been resolved, or are you still running into wireless connection issues?

Yes thanks Tez, wireless up and running now. Don't quite know how I done it but it worked. Only problem I have now is I can't view network connections on the main account. That's not a major problem, but it just winds me up.

Good to hear. As to why, it was almost certainly the temporary addressing I mentioned in this post, or, if not, that certainly wasn't helping matters.

 

As to why you can't view the network connections on the main account, it's tricky to say without being able to see the laptop in front of me, but if it's not a major issue then it's not so essential to investigate. At least everything is working now!
