Hi all, i currently have a hardship claim in with the halifax does anyone know if the banks have a timeframe in which to look into your claim and get back to you?

Statutory 8 weeks for completion otherwise you can take the claim to the FOS.

What stage are you at?

Hi, i hand delivered mine to my local branch on the 8th of feb, so i guess their time is up, i spoke to them on the 4th of march to confirm they had recived it and they said they had but it went to the wrong department but was now being looked at and to give them 4 weeks then ring back. So i gave them 5 weeks and rang today to be told that my name was left off a list and their have been some unique problems but they are looking into it. I am now waiting for someone called Russell to call me back either today if the guy can sort it or tuesday if he cant. Personally i think they have lost it and if they have i wonder what i should do next

My hardship claim was presented to them just before xmas but they have kept writing asking for more proof that we are suffering hardship so i sent in my eviction notice 3 weeks ago we get evicted on 28th april so i called halifax and asked if they could speed things up they just said that there was a lot of people in my situation and they were looking at my claim so here i am 4 months and still waiting hope you have better luck than me.

I think the banks mess and faf around.. if you don't show positive action ie take them to court they will mess you around like hell. This has gone on for years like this, just as the staff will blaitently say they don't ever refund bank charges.........well look at the figure at the top of this site as to just how much they have paid back and the fact that they are drawing out the last two court cases with the OFT........will they accept ever that they are wrong.? regards Nigel

Nigel, if you take them to court then you give them the get out clause....STAY the claim. If you are in hardship you hassle them and hassle them and hassle them on the phone, if they want additional proof then get a fax number and get a branch of the bank to fax it with a relevant reference number and get fax confirmation. Once they make a decision then you can work on them some more.
